When using any type of outdoor lighting, it makes sense to consider solar powered products that can save energy. This is a feasible solution for function purposes as well such as security lighting. There is a little difference between traditional security lighting and solar security lighting products in the market today. The difference comes from the limitation of a high intensity beam of solar powered light.

The solar light is triggered by a motion detector which can be adjusted to limit the sensitivity of the sensor. Not only is the sensitivity adjustable but so is the range and scope of the area being monitored. This is a strategy for conserving battery power and keeping the light from going off every time a leaf blows by in the wind. Sometimes the light is installed in a position close to a public road where passing traffic might otherwise set off the light and become a nuisance.

The difference between solar security lights and most other outdoor solar light products is that the solar panel is often detached from the rest of the unit. This is because some people will need to install the light under a shade such as the lid of a roof for example. It is useful to be able to install the solar panel at a different location such as the roof where it can be exposed to the greatest amount of sun light. The panel and the light are connected with a cable to provide the battery with a source of energy with which it is recharged.

Lighting security is a form of passive security that does not actually provide any real protection. It is important to understand this concept and know when to install a surveillance camera for more serious protection. But in many cases that is more security than the average home has so it is better than nothing. In some cases it is hardly installed for the purpose of security but convenience. It is nice to come home at night and have your walk from the driveway to your front door well lit so you do not have to fumble in the dark for your keys.
